I had a craving for realistic fiction and picked this up,
and—SURPRISE!—it’s one of the BEST books I’ve read this year. There are so few good books about being a kid
in the middle of a custody battle, wondering where you’ll live and who will be
taking care of you. Naomi and her
brother have been raised by their great-grandmother in California for almost as
long as they can remember. Their life
turns upside down when their mother, sporting a new first name, knocks on the
door out of the blue and wants to take Naomi with her when she moves to Las
Vegas. Read this lovely book to find out
what happens to Naomi, how she makes a connection with her Mexican heritage,
and how she finds herself.
